Mac OS 7-8-9

Locate the Assistants folder on your hard drive and open it. Double Click on the Internet Setup Assistant icon. Click Yes twice, and the right arrow to continue.
In the Configuration name, type Avantages Internet.
Select Modem for connection type and click the right arrow to continue.
Select your modem brand and port from the drop-down menus. Choose the Type of dialing your phone line uses, and then click the right arrow to continue.
Enter your local access number, including the area code.
Enter your full username (userid@avantagesinternet.com) and password in lower cases, then click the right arrow to continue
Select No for the PPP scripts and click the right arrow to continue.
Select No for the IP Address and click the right arrow to continue.
Leave the Domain Name Servers box empty, and click the right arrow to continue.
Enter your e-mail address and password, and click the right arrow to continue
In the e-mail account box, enter your username followed by the incoming mail server (ex. userid@pop.avantagesinternet.com), and click the right arrow to continue.
Enter your outgoing mail server as the email host (smtp.avantagesinternet.com). Click the right arrow to continue.
Leave the Newsgroup host blank and click the right arrow to continue.
Select No for proxy setting and click the right arrow to continue.
Click Go Ahead. You can now connect to the Internet.

Mac OS X

Click on the Apple menu and select System Preferences.
Click the Network icon.
Click the arrow on the Show drop down menu and choose Internal Modem.
Click on the TCP/IP tab.
Click the arrow on the Configure pop-up list and choose Using PPP.
Click on the PPP tab. In the Telephone Number field, enter your local access number, including the area code.
In the Account Name field, type your e-mail address and type in your password in the appropriate field. Check the Save Password box.
Click the PPP Options button
Check the following boxes: “Connect automatically when starting TCP/IP applications box”, “Disconnect when user logs out”, and uncheck the following “Prompt to stay connected”, “Disconnect if idle”. Click the OK button to continue.
Click on the Proxies tab and uncheck all boxes.
Click on the Modem tab. Make sure the modem drop down menu shows Apple Internal 56K Modem (v.90).
Click the Tone button in the Dialing area and the Show modem status in menu bar box
Click the Apply Now button and close the Network window.
